11 June 2026 –
On the margins of the seventeenth session of the Implementation Review Group (IRG), Transparency International (TI), IFES, International IDEA, UNODC, Mongolia, and Norway, organized a side event to follow up on the adoption of the first-ever dedicated resolution on political finance transparency at CoSP11 in Doha in December. The event put a focus on oversight and implementation, featuring representatives from the oversight agencies of Ukraine, Sri Lanka and Ghana, who showed that realistic pathways exist for turning Resolution 11/7 into concrete, enforceable action. Speakers stressed that strong oversight requires not only robust laws and budgets but also institutional competence, and that agencies could do more to publish information online.
They also presented the newly published report Getting Political Finance Right, a collaborative effort led by TI, which offers reformers 137 examples of good practices and lessons learned from 60 countries. Looking ahead, UNODC announced regional meetings, technical assistance, and a June 2027 Working Group on Prevention meeting with a focus on good practices and challenges – as mandated by the Resolution. Norway pledged financial support and urged other States parties to keep up the momentum to advance transparency in political finance globally.
