Top 3 Priorities to Achieve as a CCC Member

  1. Ensuring that the Coalition’s work reflect the diversity of experiences, voices and realities faced by its members across the world.
  2. Increasing the visibility of the Coalition members’ impact and making it accessible in order to engage with a broader audience, beyond expert circles.
  3. Building a safe environment for the Coalition members in order to respond quickly when an emergency situation occurs.

Candidate’s profile

Sophie Lemaître is a researcher currently focusing on corruption linked to the environment and on lawfare, how the law is used and abused to silence civil society. She published a book entitled “Réduire au silence – comment le droit est perverti pour bâillonner médias et ONG” for which she received the 2025 Renaud Van Ruymbeke Award from Transparency International France and Le Nouvel Obs.

Sophie is currently an independent researcher and an associate member of the law faculty of the University of Rennes (France). She currently serves as a board member of Observatoire des multinationales and Observatoire français des atteintes à la liberté de la presse. Over the last 15 years, she has worked for FAO (UN), Sherpa, and U4 Anti-Corruption Resource Centre. She has a Master degree on environmental law and her PhD thesis focused on corruption, tax evasion and money laundering within the extractive industries.

For Sophie, making anti-corruption accessible to all is an important part of her work. This is why she created the first podcast in French about those who combat corruption and tax evasion and was the host of the weekly radio show “Planète compromise?” (2024-2025) on Euradio speaking about corruption and the environment.

Contributions to the work of the Coalition

Thanks to the different positions I have held over the past 15 years, I have built an expertise on a wide range of topics such as illicit financial flows, beneficial ownership, natural resources, or civic space, enabling me to connect the dots when thinking about corruption and designing anti-corruption efforts. I would also like to bring my experience of doing advocacy, research, strategic litigation, and reaching to various audiences in order to support the Coalition in shaping the anti-corruption agenda. Lastly, with my research on lawfare, I would like to help Coalition members to keep holding the line.
