Transparency Pledge

The Pledge is a voluntary commitment to meet minimum standards of transparency and civil society participation in the UNCAC Implementation Review Mechanism.

We call on States Parties to sign our Transparency Pledge for the second UNCAC review cycle.

To date, 46 States Parties have signed the Transparency Pledge, reaffirming the importance of transparency and public consultation in addressing corruption. Their commitment signals a strong belief that civil society can play a crucial role in preventing and combatting corruption in their country, contributing to the successful implementation of UNCAC provisions.

We congratulate the 46 countries that have signed the Transparency Pledge so far. To ensure this commitment is implemented in practice, we regularly track compliance with the Transparency Pledge’s principles, as shown in the map below.

Civil society included in the review yes - Civil society was involved when filling out the self-assessment checklist, an exchange meeting with civil society on 5 June 2020, a hybrid prep meeting for the country visit on 6 October 2022, and there was a meeting between UNODC, the peer reviewers and civil society (Alliance Sud, Basel Institute on Governance, Public Eye, Transparency International Switzerland) during the country visit (best practice!)

Follow-up briefing on the review for civil society yes, a discussion with civil society on the country report findings and recommendations took place as part of the workshop of the Interdepartmental Working Group on Combating Corruption of 10 September 2025. The Basel Institute on Governance, Public Eye and Transparency International Switzerland actively contributed to the discussions. Other CSOs were also invited but did not attend.
