Mission
The Balkan Institute for Regional Cooperation (BIRC) is a civil society organization dedicated to promoting democracy, transparency, and regional cooperation in the Western Balkans. Our mission is to strengthen democratic governance and accountability by supporting investigative journalism, evidence-based research, and active civic engagement.
BIRC works to expose corruption, organized crime, and governance challenges through analytical reporting and investigative projects, while also fostering dialogue between civil society, media, and public institutions. The organization is committed to strengthening independent media, empowering young journalists and researchers, and building regional networks that contribute to transparency, integrity, and the rule of law.
Through research, capacity-building initiatives, and cross-border cooperation, BIRC aims to contribute to democratic resilience, media freedom, and the European integration of the Western Balkans. By connecting experts, journalists, and civil society actors, the organization promotes innovative solutions and collaborative approaches to addressing key social, political, and governance challenges in the region.
