The South-West Asia and Northern Africa (SWANA) regional network brings together stakeholders from across a diverse region, with different political, economic and social contexts but in many cases, shared anti-corruption priorities. Civil society across the region faces persistent challenges, including restricted civic space and access to information, limited public participation and weak accountability and transparency mechanisms. These challenges are compounded by legal and administrative restrictions on civil society and, in many countries, limited opportunities for meaningful participation in anti-corruption efforts.
The regional network provides a platform for independent non-governmental CSOs and stakeholders to connect, exchange experiences and strengthen their advocacy efforts in a challenging environment. Through regional dialogue and engagement with UNCAC processes, members work together to advance access to information, strengthen civil society participation and promote more transparent and accountable anti-corruption frameworks, including a more inclusive and effective UNCAC Implementation Review Mechanism.
