A one-day Special Session of the Conference of the States Parties (CoSP) to the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) is taking place on Friday, 6 November 2026, at the United Nations in Vienna. The Session will be at the end of a week of Meetings of the UNCAC Implementation Review Group and the Working Group on Asset Recovery.

The sole purpose of this Special Session is the approval by the States Parties of the key documents (self-assessment checklist, country report and executive summary template & the review timeline) for the next phase of the UNCAC Implementation Review Mechanism, as mandated by CoSP resolution 11/2.
There appeared to be wide support for the draft documents at the meeting of the UNCAC Implementation Review Group in early September.
Written submissions
Observer organizations can make written submissions to the CoSP Special Session.
The UNCAC Secretariat requests that such submissions relate to the topic of the Special Session: the next phase of the UNCAC’s Implementation Review Mechanism. The deadline for submissions is 16 October 2026. Only organizations with observer status to the CoSP can make written submissions.
Side events
The UNODC Secretariat will not issue a call for side events for this Special Session.
Accreditation and registration
CSOs that were accredited to the last regular session of the CoSP (CoSP 11 in Doha) should receive a formal invitation from the UNODC to participate in this special session.
Representatives of accredited CoSP11 observer organizations who wish to attend the Special Session in person need to register via the UN’s Indico platform. The deadline is 16 October 2026.
The Special Session will likely be fairly brief, and that may not be much opportunity for observers to participate in shaping the outcome further. We thus do not encourage civil society representatives to travel to Vienna for the sole purpose of participating in the Special Session.
The meetings of the UNCAC Implementation Review Group (IRG), the Working Group on Asset Recovery, and the Expert Meeting on International Cooperation, taking place during the same week (2- 6 November), are not open to civil society observers.
