Mission

The Armenian Lawyers’ Association, a non-governmental organisation established in Yerevan in 1995 has secured an invaluable place in the legal field of the Republic of Armenia. Within several years after its establishment the organisation’s services became accessible in almost the entire republic through branch offices in 4 regions of Armenia and 1 office operating in Yerevan. The main directions of ALA’s activities are: protection of human rights; raising legal awareness of the population; promoting the establishment of the rule of law; fight against corruption; assistance to the development of the institute of advocacy; promoting legislative and judicial reforms; providing legal education for the new generation of young lawyers and contributing to the development of civil society in Armenia. Since 2000, ALA has been administering the Armenian National Round of the “Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition”. The Competition was founded in 1959 and is held in 80 countries of the world by the International Law Students Association (ILSA). By the decision of the UN Economic and Social Council from July 21, 2014 the Armenian Lawyers’ Association has been granted Special Consultative Status by the Economic and Social Council of the UN (ECOSOC). ALA is a member of the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) Coalition. On 15 February, 2016 ALA has been renamed to Armenian Lawyers’ Association (previous name – Armenian Young Lawyers Association).

Since 1996, ALA has implemented around 80 projects.

The current large-scale project implemented by ALA is the 3-year “Multi-Faceted Anti-Corruption Promotion” Project (2014-2016).
