Background
Asset recovery is a fundamental principle of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC). Yet the effectiveness of asset recovery depends not only on whether the proceeds of corruption are recovered, but also on effective cooperation between States, whether the process is transparent, accountable and participatory, whether assets are properly managed and preserved, and whether their recovery and return contribute to remedying the harm caused by corruption.
This event will be an opportunity to share experiences between States Parties and between States Parties and civil society on best practices in several area of asset recovery of growing importance.
