General description of the CSO work in the anti-corruption area
PALU is implementing a 3-year project aimed at enhancing the level of transparency and accountability in business transactions in Africa through the development and adoption of a Code of Ethics on Anti-Corruption and Compliance Standards for African Lawyers. Key activities include development of the Code and regional training seminars on anti-corruption efforts.
PALU is also a steering committee member of the Multi Sectoral Working Group (MSWG) on combatting corruption in Africa. One of our responsibilities under the MSWG is organising the annual civil society forum that aims at creating a strong network of civil society stakeholders with enhanced engagement with the African Union-Advisory Board on Corruption that are aimed at achieving stronger and sustainable outcomes in the fight against corruption in Africa.
Specific description of the CSO work in relation to the UNCAC
We are not currently implementing any activity that is directly connected with the implementation of UNCAC or its review mechanism. However, through our other project activities we are indirectly supporting the implementation of UNCAC principles. For instance, through the MSWG, PALU is supporting the implementation of core principles of the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combatting Corruption (AUCPCC). Some of the principles of the AUCPCC and UNCAC are similar for instance with regard to prevention and criminalization of corruption as are some of the principles on asset recovery.
